Forecast Update: Showers midweek, rain possible this weekend

We’re looking at a clear, cool start on Tuesday. Some patchy frost can’t be ruled out in the countryside. Most places will see the temperature fall into the 40s by early Tuesday morning. Tuesday looks like a nice day in Southern New England. Highs will be in the upper 60s to low 70s with plenty of sunshine. It will be breezy, with a west-southwest wind between 10-25 mph.

Some clouds will arrive Tuesday night, with the chance of a few showers by Wednesday morning. It will not be nearly as cool, with lows in the 50s.

Wednesday and Wednesday night look a bit unsettled, but I wouldn’t expect a washout. There will be scattered showers Wednesday afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 60s to low 70s again. Some steadier rain may move through late Wednesday night before we get back to some sun on Thursday afternoon. Highs should be 65-70 on Thursday.

There will be a brief break in the action Friday, but more rain is likely for RI, MA, and CT as we head into the weekend. A storm moving  up the Eastern Seaboard may bring an extended stretch of unsettled weather from late Friday to early next week. I don’t expect it to be raining the entire weekend, and, right now, it looks like Saturday will be the wetter of the two days. It’s a forecast that will probably change a bit during the week, however, I would be rather surprised if Southern New England managed a dry weekend.

The cover photo is from late Monday afternoon in Providence. The waxing moon was quite visible. It combined with the billowing cumulus clouds to provide a stark contrast to the deep blue September sky.
