Reported snow totals from Monday January, 21, 2013

A small developing storm brought a light, fluffy snow to Southern New England Monday night. The highest accumulations were over coastal RI and far SE MA where some spots reached five inches. The forecast did not work out as planned in far Northern RI and, particularly, Eastern Massachusetts north of Plymouth through Boston. A Norlun trough did not form as anticipated, and the North Shore of Boston received less than an inch of snow.

The water content of the snow was very low due to the cold air in place over Southern New England. 2.5″ of snow in Bristol, RI melted down to 0.12″ of liquid – about a 20:1 ratio. The snow was being blows around by gusty winds Tuesday morning as Arctic air charged in behind the departing system. Here are some totals reported to the National Weather Service:
