Mild Through the Midweek; Cold Weekend

The mild weather will continue on Tuesday. Highs will be in the mid to upper 60s inland, and low to mid 60s near the coast with partly cloudy skies. It will be relatively mild Tuesday night, with lows in the 50s under partly to mostly cloudy skies. There will be a fair amount of clouds on Wednesday, but a strong southwesterly wind will continue pumping mild air into Southern New England. Highs will be in the low 70s inland, and low to mid 60s near the coast. The wind will pick up to 15-25 mph in the afternoon, strongest near the coast.

Stray rain showers are possible from late Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night. The best chance of rain is after sunset. It will not be a cold night, with lows in the 50s. Any showers should end by dawn on Thursday, and it will become partly to mostly sunny on Thursday. Highs will be near 60.

Thursday night will be mainly clear and cooler, with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s. The forecast for Halloween is decent, but not spooktacular (couldn’t resist). It will become partly to mostly cloudy. Highs will be in the mid to upper 50s, with the temperature fall into the 40s during the evening. It will likely stay dry for trick or treating.

The first weekend of November looks very chilly, and there is a chance that the first snowflakes of the season will fly in part of Southern New England. Cold rain showers will develop on Saturday. Highs will be in the upper 40s around midday before the temperature tumbles into the 30s during the evening. A change to snow is possible at night with temperatures in the low to mid 30s. It’s too early to speculate about accumulation, but a lot of factors will limit snow accumulation at this time of the year – for one, the ground is not frozen and will be wet after the rain.

Sunday should feature some sunshine, but it will be very cool, with highs only in the low to mid 40s and a strong northerly wind that makes it feel even colder. Wind chills will hover in the upper 20s to low 30s for most of the afternoon. If the temperature has not fallen to freezing (32°) where you are, then there is a decent chance of it happening Sunday night. Lows will be in the upper 20s to low 30s. The cold snap, however, will not last too long. Highs will bounce back into the 50s on Monday.
