Snow Likely Saturday

After a couple of wet days that melted most of the snow in Southeastern New England, it looks like snow will return to the area this weekend. Rain and drizzle will likely change to rain/snow showers by around dawn on Saturday as temperatures fall into the low to mid 30s.

A developing storm will bring occasional snow on Saturday, but it will likely not accumulate well on pavement during the day due to the high late-March sun angle. The sun is as high in the sky now as it is in mid-September. The temperature will be in the low to mid 30s while it is snowing, and if the snow lets up, the temperature may rise into the mid to upper 30s. The snow may mix with rain near the coast in RI, and in all of Southeastern Massachusetts. An inch or two of snow may accumulate on the grass, especially inland, during the day on Saturday.

Snow will linger Saturday evening, and that is the best opportunity for minor accumulation on paved surfaces. The temperature will fall from the mid 30s into the upper 20s to low 30s after sunset. The snow will end before dawn on Sunday. An extra inch of snow is possible Saturday night, and some roads could become icy as the temperature falls into the low to mid 20s by late at night.

Sunday looks partly to mostly sunny with highs in the low 40s. A disturbance will move through New England on Monday. A few rain showers are possible with highs in the 40s. Tuesday looks quiet and seasonable, with highs near 50. Another system will pass by Tuesday night into Wednesday. More rain and snow showers are possible. If the precipitation happens at night, it’s possible there could be a minor snow accumulation. Highs will be in the 40s on Wednesday.

The weather looks dry from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday. It will likely be near 50° on Thursday. Yet another disturbance is in the forecast for Friday. It looks like rain showers with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s.
