Iceland is living up to its name this September. Late this past weekend, a very unusual early-season snowstorm brought 15-20 cm (6-8 inches) of snow and 20 m/s (45 mph) winds. The storm killed at least 100 sheep, and more than 13,000 have not yet been rounded up. A State of Emergency is in effect in North Iceland. It is believed to be the largest snowfall this early in the fall season.
Today, as if the snow snow storm is not enough, the remnants of Tropical Storm Leslie are moving through Iceland bringing more wild weather to the west coast. The forecast calls for 13-20 m/s (30-45 mph) winds late today and tonight, with occasionally heavy rain.
So, as quiet as it is in Southern New England, there are other parts of the world that are seeing some very wild weather.
