PatsCast: Very mild at Gillette Stadium

There will undoubtedly be a “playoff atmosphere” in Foxboro on Sunday, but the actual atmosphere over Southern New England will be incredibly mild for mid-January, with temperatures soaring into the 50s under dry skies.

The Pats are used to welcoming visiting teams to frozen Foxboro for some playoff football in January. Recently, playoff games at Gillette Stadium have been played with temperatures well below 40°. This week, however, an unseasonably mild weather pattern in the Eastern United States means the temperature at kickoff on Sunday will be 15-20° warmer than normal.

Patriots fans will have a close eye on Denver Saturday evening. The weather looks COLD for the Broncos-Ravens game. Temperatures will be in teens with a slight chance of snow. Peyton Manning has never been a big fan of cold weather and will be wearing a glove on his throwing hand to compensate for the lack of “feel” he experiences in cold weather due to the neck injury that sidelined him last season.

It will feel more like mid-November than mid-January in Foxboro, with a game-time temperature flirting with 50°. It was equally mild last month when the Patriots throttled the Texans on a damp, mild Monday night. The mild weather for that game was accompanied by some heavy showers for the pre-game tailgaters. This time around the weather looks great for Patriots fans to get “lubed up” as Tom Brady so famously put it last season.
