There has been huge progress made in numerical weather prediction in the past few decades, but, as we saw Monday night, it still an inexact science. A Norlun trough developed about 50 miles farther east than forecast, and a prediction of several inches of snow from Plymouth, MA to Portland, ME turned into nothing more than a few flakes. The various computer models are forecasting another snow threat late in the week in Southern New England. The timing of the steadiest snow is Friday night.
