The soaking rainstorm that brought at least an inch of rain to most of Southern New England set records for the date at the four major climatological sites. Boston, Providence, Worcester, and Hartford all broke the record for rainfall (precipitation) on February 27. The record that was broken in Providence was set exactly 100 years ago. The old record in Boston was set 101 years ago.
Most of these totals are unofficial because the rain was still coming down early in the evening.
- Providence (TF Green) 1.22″ – old record 1.06″ set in 1913
- Boston (Logan Airport) 0.97″ – old record 0.96″ set in 1912
- Worcester 1.1″ – old record 0.62″ set in 1946
- Hartford 1.25″ – old record 0.76″ set in 1971
It should be noted that going into today February 27 had some of the lowest rainfall records of any day this month. In Boston and Hartford, only February 29 (which happens once every 4 years) had a lower record daily rainfall. In Providence, only February 23 and February 29 had lower records. In Worcester, it was the lowest record daily rainfall for the month.
