Don’t be deceived by the relatively mild early this week. Colder weather will return by late in the workweek, and Southern New England may be looking at another significant storm sometime next week. Big March winter storms are certainly not unprecedented in Southern New England. 125 years ago today the “Great White Hurricane” was bearing down on the Northeast. Here are some highlights of the Long Range Forecast.
- Rain showers Tuesday afternoon and night – mild with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s
- Wednesday may be the best day of the week with a down-sloping westerly wind and highs in the low 50s under mostly sunny skies
- Thursday looks seasonably cool, with cooler than normal weather likely Friday – both days will be dry
- An Alberta Clipper will move through this weekend bringing some rain showers. The best chances of showers are Saturday or Saturday evening
- There are signs that a stronger storm may form in the early to middle part of next week. If everything goes right (wrong) then we could be looking at a winter storm in, at least, interior Southern New England
- The odds strongly favor a mainly rain storm in RI and SE MA at this time of the year
- An extended spring like stretch is not in the forecast for the next two weeks.
