One year after dealing with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s, the Boston Marathon runners will be blessed with near ideal running conditions on Monday. The temperature will be in the mid to upper 30s around dawn on Monday, and it will warm through the 40s into the mid 50s during the day. There will be a chill in the corrals as runners wait for the race to begin, but once the sun rises, the weather will be just about perfect for running. It should be similar to the type of weather that New Englanders have spent countless hours training in during the past couple of months.
The sky will be partly to mostly sunny during the day. Highs should be around 55° in the mid-afternoon. The wind will not be much of a factor for the runners, especially in the morning. During the afternoon, a sea breeze will kick in out of the southeast. That will prove to be a light headwind for the runners as they make their way toward Boston. Overall, it looks like a great year for seasoned Boston Marathon veterans to shoot for a PR. Last year, however, was a completely different story with temperatures soaring through the 80s. More than 2000 runners were treated for heat-related problems during the 2012 Boston Marathon. It was so hot last year that race officials offered runners the option of deferring their qualification for the race to this year. Those that took advantage of the offer are being rewarded with great weather.
