The annual Cox Providence Rhode Races are this weekend in Providence, RI. The first races are a 5k and Kids Race Saturday morning in Roger Williams Park. The Sunday morning races are the Cox Sports Marathon and the UnitedHealthcare Half Marathon – both beginning and ending in downtown Providence.
Overall, the weather will be somewhat unsettled this weekend, but it is still possible that the weather will be dry for all the races. An approaching cold front will trigger showers and thunderstorms Saturday into Saturday night. The timing of the front is such that the rain may not begin before the National Grid 5k on Saturday, and it may be over by the longer races on Sunday morning.
Saturday morning looks mild and somewhat muggy, with temperatures in the low to mid 60s under mostly cloudy skies. There is a chance of showers/t-storms, but greatest likelihood of rain is not until later in the day. Rain showers are likely late Saturday into the predawn hours on Sunday. The line of steadier rain will move off the coast by dawn Sunday. It will be comfortable on Sunday morning, with the early-morning temperature near 60. A drier westerly breeze will develop during the morning as the temperature climbs through the 60s. There is the outside chance that a few showers will pop-up near midday Sunday.
