The dog days of summer usually roll on into the first couple of weeks of August. This year, however, there has been a shift in the weather pattern after an extended hot/muggy stretch that led to a record warm July. The first week-plus of August looks to be slightly cooler than normal without a ton of humidity. August is usually the second warmest month of the year (behind July) in Southern New England. It is also the time of the year that the hurricane season typically heats up. The season doesn’t peak until early-September, but there have been several August tropical systems to impact Southern New England. It was just two years ago that Tropical Storm Irene barreled up the East Coast in late-August.
We don’t have any hard data to back this claim up, but we think some of the best sunsets of the year occur during August. Maybe we’re just soaking them in because we know it will not be long before summer ends, but, this year, take a look for yourself, there are sure to be some stunners.
Looking ahead to August
