There was a mid-October feel to the weather in New England Tuesday morning. Cool air rode in on a northerly breeze Monday night, and by Tuesday morning the temperature had fallen all the way to the mid 30s to mid 40s in most of the area. A few spots in Northern New England dipped below freezing, including Concord, NH. The big cities of Southern New England were all in the low to mid 40s for the first time since late May. Boston established a new record low temperature when it fell to 44°. The old record was 45° set in 1986.
And if the chilly temperatures weren’t enough to shock you into the realization that the start of fall is just a few days away, maybe the wind chill did the trick. There was still a breeze in RI and SE MA early Tuesday morning, so the wind chill was in the low 30s in Smithfield, RI and upper 30s in Providence, RI.
There will be plenty of sunshine on Tuesday afternoon. A gusty north-northeast breeze will keep it cool. Highs will be in the low 60s.
