Heat Advisory for part of Southeastern Massachusetts Wednesday

Unseasonably hot and humid weather is heading for Southern New England on Wednesday. Temperatures in the low to mid 90s combined with high humidity will lead to a heat index in the low 100s in interior Southeastern Massachusetts during the afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a rare mid-September Heat Advisory for most of Eastern MA away from Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod and the Islands.

WITH THE HOTTEST TEMPERATURES AND HIGHEST HUMIDITY LIKELY
OCCURRING ACROSS EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS AND NEARBY SOUTHERN NEW
HAMPSHIRE. THIS INCLUDES THE GREATER BOSTON AREA.  ACTUAL AIR
TEMPERATURES WILL SOAR INTO THE MID 90S...HOWEVER WITH THE HIGH
HUMIDITY IT WILL FEEL LIKE 100 TO 104 DEGREES.

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS
EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY
WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE
POSSIBLE. AVOID PROLONGED WORK IN THE SUN OR IN POORLY VENTILATED
AREAS. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED
ENVIRONMENT...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK IN ON RELATIVES AND
NEIGHBORS.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY
HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE
