Tropical Storm Gabrielle strengthens, nears Bermuda

The National Hurricane Center upgraded the top winds on Tropical Storm Gabrielle to 50 mph at 12:30 pm EDT on Tuesday. The storm was about 95 miles south of Bermuda and moving north at 12 mph. Squally rain bands were very close to Bermuda early in the afternoon, and conditions are likely to deteriorate later Tuesday into Tuesday night. The storm will bring tropical storm force winds, a 2-3 foot storm surge, and 3-5 inches of rain to the island before moving away late Wednesday.

The storm is expected to continue moving north then northeast hitting the Canadian Maritimes late in the week.
