Abnormally dry pattern continues in the Northeast

Another week has passed without much rain in most of Southern New England. Showers moved through the coast of RI and SE MA late Wednesday, but the rain did not spread inland past the I-95 corridor. Boston and Providence have both received about 0.5″ of rain so far this month. That is about 1/6 of the normal monthly total to date. A small part of coastal Connecticut has slipped into a moderate drought.

Elsewhere, a good chunk of Southern New England is categorized as “Abnormally Dry”. The next step down the ladder is into a moderate drought. There is not much rain in the forecast for the next week, and it’s possible more areas could reach a moderate drought when the next update is issued on October 31.

Some parts of Southern New England have received less than 25% of the normal rain in the past 60 days
