Tropical Storm Lorenzo forms in Atlantic Ocean

Another minimal impact tropical storm has formed in the Atlantic Basin. Tropical Storm Lorenzo formed Wednesday afternoon in the central Atlantic Ocean. The storm had winds of 40 mph and was moving northeast at 6 mph as of 5 pm EDT. Lorenzo is expected to strengthen slightly then weaken as it continues on a northeast track through the Atlantic Ocean. It is no threat to land. In terms of the number of storms the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season has been near normal, but the storms have not been strong, and the impact to land, particularly the United States, has been minimal.
