Few rain showers on Friday

The temperature bounced back to the mid to upper 40s Thursday afternoon after starting the day in the teens to mid 20s. Skies stayed mostly sunny through the afternoon, with a light west-southwest breeze. Clouds will thicken Thursday night, and a few rain showers are possible late at night. Lows will be in the mid 30s to low 40s.

Rain showers will move through Southern New England Friday morning

Showers are likely Friday morning as a disturbance passes Southern New England. The temperature will be in the mid to upper 40s. There is a better chance of dry weather in the afternoon, but a lot of sunshine is unlikely. Highs will be near 50°. A cold front will pass by dawn Saturday. That front will put an end to the rain shower threat and open the door to an Arctic invasion that will last into early next week. Saturday will be brisk and cool with highs in the low to mid 40s near midday before the temperature falls through the 30s in the afternoon and evening.

Cold air will continue charging in on a fresh northwesterly wind Saturday night through Sunday. A few stray flurries are possible. It will be partly cloudy and very cold, with the temperature falling into the low to mid 20s by dawn Sunday, then only rebounding into the upper 20s to low 30s during the day Sunday. A 15-35 mph northwesterly wind will make it feel more like the single digits and teens. Sunday night looks even colder, with lows in the teens to low 20s and single digit wind chills.

It will stay dry and cold through Monday. The wind will ease on Monday afternoon. Highs should be in the low to mid 30s with mostly sunny skies. Clouds will gradually increase Tuesday as a storm moves up the Eastern Seaboard. We expect this poorly timed storm to bring rain to the big cities of the Northeast on the big travel days Tuesday and/or Wednesday. Farther inland, snow is possible in the Appalachians all the way to Northern New England. One positive aspect is the storm may bring a much-needed soaking rain to Southern New England on Wednesday.

The storm should be out of the picture on Thanksgiving, and another shot of cold, dry weather will move in for the holiday and Black Friday. Highs will be in the 30s, and lows will be in the teens and 20s. It will be mainly clear and blustery through Friday.
