Drought-parched Southern New England received the soaking rain it needed, and it also happened to be a record-breaker at the four major climatology sites. The record daily rainfall was easily broken in Boston, Providence, Hartford, and Worcester.
The old records were among the lowest daily precipitation records for the month. The new records will be among the highest for the month in Hartford and Providence. More than 3″ of rain fell in Hartford and Providence, with Worcester receiving 2″+ and Boston topping 1.5″ as of 3 pm. The old and new records are listed below. It was more rain in Providence than had fallen in the previous 85 days combined. It was also the second wettest (June 7) day of the year.
