The winter storm that will impact Southern New England has the potential to be a headache if it delivers heavy snow and strong winds. Before the storm reaches New England, it could be much more than a headache in the Southeastern United States. Cold air near the surface in the southern states could lead to the biggest ice storm in decades. Forecasters are issuing stern warnings in advance of the storm in hopes of avoiding a repeat of the gridlock that occurred during a winter storm a couple of weeks ago.
The storm will produce heavy snow in the interior Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, but it’s the ice accretion from freezing rain that could be the most destructive. The brunt of the storm is expected Wednesday into Wednesday night.
