Sharply Cooler on Tuesday

Monday was the warmest day since mid-September in Southern New England. Highs easily reached 80° away from the coast, and it was pleasant near the coast with highs in the 70s and a southwesterly breeze. The wind will switch directions Monday night, and much cooler weather will plow into Southern New England after midnight. The temperature will fall to near 50 by early Tuesday morning with a 10-15 mph northeast breeze.

A very cool northeast breeze will bring a big change to Southern New England on Tuesday

Tuesday will be partly to mostly cloudy, breezy, and cool. Highs will struggle to reach the low 60s in Rhode Island, and it will stay in the low to mid 50s along the Eastern Massachusetts coast. There will be a 10-20 mph northeast breeze. There may be some patchy mist and drizzle near the E MA coast. Wednesday look a bit better, with highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s. The warmest weather will be inland where there should be partly sunny skies. Clouds and an onshore breeze will combine to keep the coast in the upper 50s.

Thursday does not look like a terrible day. The wind will swing around to the south, and widespread rain is not expected. A few showers cannot be ruled out, but it will likely become partly sunny with highs inland in the low to mid 70s, and in the mid to upper 60s near the coast. The southerly breeze will pick up to 10-25 mph. Friday looks similar, with a better chance of rain late in the day. Low clouds and fog may be an issue near the coast on Friday.

Rain likely Saturday; Drier Sunday

Looking ahead to the weekend, rain is likely Friday night and Saturday morning. There may be thunderstorms with some of the heavier showers, and it’s possible the showers will linger during the day, especially in Eastern Massachusetts. Highs will be in the 60s to low 70s with a south wind. The weather should improve on Sunday. Look for partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s – just about normal for mid-May.
