Several weeks of mainly dry weather leads to a moderate drought in most of Rhode Island, Eastern Connecticut, and Southeastern Massachusetts. There has not been a significant widespread rain storm since the second week of August in these areas, and this September is among the driest on record.
A moderate drought signifies reservoirs and streams running lower than normal, and there are no mandatory water use restrictions. You may remember part of Southern New England was in a moderate drought for part of last fall until late November and early December.
The weather will be dry into early next week. There is an outside chance of rain from a developing ocean storm in the midweek. More dry weather is likely late in the workweek.
