PatsCast: Windy, Cold, and Dry

New England Patriots Coach Bill Belichick says he cannot get an accurate forecast a couple of days before a game, so we figured we’d help him out with this detailed forecast for Gillette Stadium on Sunday. Hopefully, we’re not like all the meteorologists that Coach Belichick thinks are “almost always wrong”.

You may remember the Denver Broncos last visit to Gillette Stadium last November. It was very cold (20s) and very windy (gusts 30-45 mph). The Patriots escaped with an overtime win after a furious second half comeback. The game was particularly memorable for Belichick’s decision to “take the wind” in overtime after winning the coin toss. He handed the football to Peyton Manning, one of the most prolific quarterbacks in NFL history, and effectively said “we don’t think you can move the ball against this wind”. Of course, he was right, and the Patriots prevailed.

The weather for this year’s Patriots-Broncos “game of the year” will bring back some memories of last November, but it will not be as cold. A large storm in the Atlantic Ocean will be far enough away that any snow and/or rain stays away from Gillette, but it will be close enough to bring howling northwesterly winds throughout the day and into the night. The temperature, while cold for early November, will not be below freezing. Remember, the game starts at 4:25 PM, and Daylight Saving Time ends Saturday night, so it will be dark for most of the game – that much we’re sure of…check out the forecast including pre and post game tailgating.
