A Few Flakes, Very Cold on Tuesday

Gusty west-northwest winds ushered very cold air into New England late Monday. The temperature will fall to the mid teens by dawn on Tuesday under mainly clear skies. Wind chills will not be a big factor by early Tuesday as the wind diminishes to around 5 mph. It will become mostly cloudy on Tuesday, and scattered snow showers and flurries are possible from late in the morning through the afternoon. It does not look like the snow will be steady enough to cause widespread problems, but any snow that falls will stick, and a thin coating is possible in part of Southeastern New England. It looks like the best chance of seeing enough snow to coat the ground is near the coast. It will be a very cold day, with highs only in the low to mid 20s.

Steady snow will be south of Southern New England on Tuesday, but a few snow showers are possible

The cold weather is here to stay for a while, and the temperature will fall into the teens again Tuesday night under partly cloudy skies. Wednesday looks partly cloudy with highs in the mid to upper 20s. A few flurries cannot be ruled out. There will be a 10-20 mph northerly breeze that brings in even colder weather for Thursday. The temperature will nosedive to near zero by dawn on Thursday, and wind chills will be 10-20° below zero. The wind will ease on Thursday afternoon, and the temperature will rebound to the low to mid 20s by late in the day.

A weak storm system moving through on Friday will bring the threat of snow showers or light snow Friday morning. Right now, it looks like there could be an inch or two of snow. Highs will be near 30 on Friday. The weekend is shaping up to be cold and dry. Lows will be in the teens Saturday morning, and highs will be in the upper 20s with mostly sunny skies. Sunday will start in the teens, and it should reach the low 30s in the afternoon.
