Clouds will increase, and the temperature will slowly rise Saturday night. There is a slight chance of patchy freezing drizzle late at night, but most spots will stay dry. The temperature will climb into the mid 20s to upper inland, and into the low 30s from the coast to Providence.
Look for mostly cloudy skies with the chance of a few showers through midday on Sunday. A southerly breeze will help get the temperature up into the 40s by early in the afternoon. The tailgating weather for the AFC Championship may not be all that bad. The steadiest rain is likely to be in western New England in the afternoon, and the temperature will be in the mid 40s.
The likelihood of showers increases late Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening. It looks like the best chance of steady rain is in the second half of the game – or after 8 pm. Moderate to heavy showers are possible through 1 am moving west to east through Eastern Massachusetts before the rain winds down by dawn on Monday. The temperature will fall back into the mid to upper 30s by early Monday, and it should stay above freezing.
Martin Luther King Day will be partly cloudy, brisk, and not too cold. Highs will be in the upper 30s to low 40s. It will stay quiet and seasonably cold on Tuesday. Highs will be in the mid to upper 30s. Looking ahead to the midweek, a weak storm system could bring flurries or snow showers on Wednesday. There is a slight chance of period of light snow that could accumulate late in the day or Wednesday night, and we will continue tracking it. The rest of the workweek will likely be dry and chilly, but not terribly cold for mid-January.
