Weekend Snow Showers; Steadier Snow Monday

Friday night looks chilly, but not as cold as Thursday night was. Lows will be in the single digits to low teens with mainly clear to partly cloudy skies. Some outlying areas could see the temperature fall to near 0 if the sky stays clear with light winds.

Snow heads for the Northeastern United States this weekend

Clouds will increase on Saturday, and some light snow is possible in the afternoon and evening. It does not look like it will amount to more than an inch in RI through Saturday evening. Highs on Saturday will be in the mid to upper 20s.

Occasional light snow is possible Saturday night and Sunday. That round of snow may be steadier, and 1-2″ of accumulation is possible between Saturday night and Sunday evening. Highs will be near 30 on Sunday.

The best chance of significant snow in RI and SE MA is between late Sunday night and early Tuesday morning. A storm developing off the Mid-Atlantic coast may send an area of moderate snow into Southern New England. Higher snow totals are likely north of the MA Pike, but RI and SE MA could pick up several inches in that timeframe. It’s a tricky forecast, and one that we will be fine tuning over the weekend.

Looking ahead to the middle of next week, it looks relatively cold and quiet. The coldest weather of the winter is possible late next workweek and into Valentine’s Day.
