Anyone who competed in the inaugural Bristol Independence Rhode Race last June remembers what a wet and windy day it was. Temperatures in the 50s and a wind-driven rain made it difficult for the half-marathon runners. Thankfully, the weather looks a lot better this year, and there is a very good chance that the race happens without any rain.
Showers and thunderstorms are possible Friday evening into the pre-dawn hours on Saturday, but by the time the gun goes off at 630 AM on Saturday, July 2, the steady rain will have moved away from Bristol. There may be some lingering dampness and clouds early in the day, but the trend will be for drier weather to arrive during the morning. Lingering clouds may not be a bad thing, since the race is a half-marathon and many runners will be on the course until after 830 AM. It will be muggy early in the day with a west wind developing by mid-morning that will help to lower the humidity. It may not happen before most runners have completed the race. At this point, we’re used to running in muggy weather!
