Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts have received more rain this month than the rest of Southern New England. However, moderate drought conditions persist for most of RI and it is abnormally dry in Southeastern Massachusetts. There will be beneficial rain on Friday, and it could be enough to cause localized street flooding. The latest computer projections suggest at least an inch of rain in a good chunk of RI and SE MA.
These summer systems are fickle, and a slight shift in the track will mean a big difference in how much rain falls. At the high-end, it would not shock me if there were spots that received 2-4″ of rain over a 12-hour period. The timing of the rain is from 5 am to 5 pm, with the heaviest rain likely around midday. The best chance of seeing more than an inch of rain is close the coast. The rain will likely end in the mid-afternoon in most of RI, and may linger until around 5 pm in SE MA. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s with a tropical feel while it’s pouring outside.
Saturday will be a nice day, with mostly sunny skies and high in the upper 70s to low 80s at the beach, and just a bit warmer inland. It will be muggy. A weak storm system passes south of Southern New England Sunday into Monday. Look for partly to mostly cloudy skies and stray showers. It will be seasonably cool with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. Most of next week looks dry, but clouds may be stubborn from time to time. It will also not be very warm, with highs lower than 85° inland, and 80° or so at the coast. The humidity will be lower, so lows will be in the 60s, and you can probably get away without A/C at night. The long-range outlook is for a cold front to pass late next week, and showers are possible at the start of next weekend.
