April 10th Update

Part of Southern New England is getting snow again on Tuesday. Temperatures are above freezing, so it’s not sticking to pavement. Most of RI and SE MA will see rain showers Tuesday afternoon. While it will not be heavy rain, it may be damp for most of the afternoon. Highs will only be in the low to mid 40s – very chilly for this time of the year. The temperature dips to near freezing Tuesday night. The normal low temperature is in the upper 30s to near 40°.

Expect some sunshine and cool temps on Wednesday. Highs will be close to 50°, and if it gets out of the 40s, it will be the first time that’s happened in the past week! That is pretty remarkable. Clouds increase on Thursday ahead of a wind shift that will bring warmer weather late in the workweek. The high temperature will be closer to normal on Thursday – in the mid 50s.

Friday and Saturday look like the warmest days since late February – which sounds kind of weird! Highs will be in the 60s to low 70s with dry skies likely. The best chance of 70s is away from the coast. The immediate coast may get stuck in the 50s with an onshore breeze. Do not get used to the warm weather because a HUGE cool-down is coming on Sunday. A wind shift to the northeast with a back-door front drops the temperature all the way to the 30s/40s on Sunday, and it will likely stay very cool through the day. Showers/drizzle/mist cannot be ruled out on Sunday.

We’re watching a rainmaker for sometime between late Sunday night and Monday night. At this point, it looks like a soggy Monday, with temperatures gradually climbing through the 40s into the 50s. 1-2″ of rain is likely between late Sunday and early Tuesday. Depending on how the storm system evolves, there could be gusty southerly or southeasterly winds Sunday night through Monday.

EPS mean calling for a soggy Monday morning – not good news for Boston Marathoners

The overall theme for next week, and possibly for weeks to come, is for relatively cool weather in the Northeast. The EPS weeklies do not show any extended warm-up or pattern change into at least early May. It also looks relatively wet. It’s not good news for outdoor spring sports in Southern New England.
