June 18th Update

A hot start to the week gives way to seasonable or slightly cool weather by late in the workweek. Monday’s hot and humid weather will be broken by a cold front that will likely bring strong to severe thunderstorms to interior Southern New England late in the day. The first line of storm will likely weaken some as it approaches Northwest RI, and it may fall apart before getting to the I-95 corridor. A second line of storms is possible overnight. There is a low risk of damaging winds south and east of I-95.

Big t-storms are possible Monday PM inland
SPC severe weather outlook – better chance of severe in interior New England

Highs will be in the 80s to 90s on Monday from coast to inland locations. High humidity will make it feel like 100+ in some inland towns. You can get relief at the beaches with a southwest wind. Tuesday will be a warm day, but less humid, with highs in the 80s. Wednesday looks cooler with a disturbance developing southwest of Southern New England. It will stay dry through the day, but an onshore breeze may keep temps in the 70s.

Showers are possible Wednesday night into early Thursday. It looks like most or all of the rain will be gone before 8 a.m. Thursday. At this time, a reasonable estimate is less than 0.2″ of rain in coastal CT, RI and SE MA. That’s not much, and an overall dry stretch continues.

Highs will likely be in the 70s Thursday through Saturday. It should be dry through the end of the workweek and into the weekend. The best chance of rain this weekend is Saturday night into Sunday morning. It does not look like as great a weekend as Father’s Day was. Looking ahead to the end of June, near to warmer than normal weather is likely in Southern New England.
