December 3 – Colder and quiet weather ahead

The workweek got off to a nice and mild start with highs not far from 60° on Monday. I hope that you had a chance to get out and enjoy it because much colder weather is on the way for rest of the week. The temperature will struggle to reach 40° in the next 7 days starting on Tuesday. Expect a gusty wind on Tuesday with temps likely in the mid to upper 30s, but feeling colder due to the 15-30 mph breeze.

Cold and quiet are the buzzwords in the midweek. Highs will be in the 30s on Wednesday with less wind. A weak disturbance arrives late in the workweek, but it should only bring flurries or snow showers – at worst. Thursday is dry during the day with a few flakes possible at night. It could scrape up to 40° on Thursday afternoon. Friday through Sunday will be dry and cold, with temps in the 20s at night (maybe even 10s inland this weekend) and 30s during the day. The normal high is in the mid 40s.

GFS model shows a storm well south of New England early next week

A storm system south of New England is worth watching late in the weekend or early next week. Right now, it looks like it has a better chance of missing than hitting. The temperature will moderate a bit early next week, and a warm-up is in the cards for mid-December.

Next week looks relatively warm in the Northeast
After a wet fall, the winter is off to a dry start with not much precipitation expected in the next 7-10 days. By mid-month, precipitation could be 50% or less of normal for December
