Watch out for some slippery spots early Thursday as the temperature slips below freezing overnight. Thursday looks partly cloudy, brisk, and chilly with temps in the mid to upper 30s in the afternoon. There will be a gusty northwest breeze – especially in the morning.
A disturbance moving well north of New England brings scattered rain showers on Friday. There may be just enough cold air wedged into northern Connecticut for a brief period of light freezing rain Friday morning. Elsewhere the temperature will be above freezing, and may even get close to 50 Friday afternoon. Any rain showers will be light and spotty.
Most of the weekend looks cooler and quiet. Expect highs near 40 on Saturday, and in the 30s on Sunday. A storm will likely pass too far south of Southern New England to bring any snow on Saturday. High pressure builds in on Sunday for fair skies and seasonably cool conditions. Another storm moves off the Mid-Atlantic coast Sunday night into Monday, and that one may be close enough to bring some snow to Southern New England. It’s the kind of storm that if it tracks farther north could quickly become a moderate (3-5″) snow-maker. As it stands right now, it looks like it’s far enough south that it will more likely be flurries, snow showers, or a complete miss. I would not be surprised, however, to see the models trend farther north (snowier) in the coming days.
The weather pattern favors more chances of snow next week. As you can see from the graphic below, there could be something in the middle and end of next week, too. Right now, it’s tough to say if the events would be all snow, a mix or mainly rain. Given the way this winter has gone, I am leaning towards mixed precipitation events.
