Cold weather returns Friday night with a gusty wind. The wind will help to dry pavement after the rain earlier in the day. Look for temps in the low to mid 20s at dawn on Saturday, but it will feel colder due to a 15-30 mph northwest wind. A few higher gusts are possible. The wind stays active all day with temps ranging from the upper 20s inland to the mid 30s at the coast in the afternoon. It’ll feel like the teens most of the afternoon. The temperature dips into the teens by late Saturday night. Expect sun to clouds on Sunday with highs in the mid 30s. A storm system passing well south of New England may bring a few snow showers or flurries Sunday night. It’s not quite close enough for accumulating snow, but worth keeping an eye on.
Monday looks dry and seasonable before we turn our attention to a storm that will arrive Tuesday afternoon/evening. The storm track looks too close for all snow in CT, RI and SE MA. A thump of snow is possible between late Tuesday afternoon and late in the evening as the storm develops south of Long Island. Milder air will be drawn in overnight, with a change to sleet then rain likely from south to north. It may not go over to all rain in northern CT and RI depending on the exact track. It’s too early to talk about potential accumulations with much certainty, but at this point it looks like a 1-3″ coast, 3-6″ inland event before the changeover.
Looking down the road into the end of next week. Another storm may bring snow to rain late in the workweek or over the weekend. The early, early projection is for a warmer event overall. There will likely be more snow chances as we move past Presidents’ Day into the end of the month. However, the pattern needs to shift a bit if we’re going to get away from the mixed precipitation events. It’s possible that happens late in the month.
