It will be a great week for outdoor activities as high pressure keeps the weather dry in Southern New England for several days. A mild start on Monday gives way to cooler weather in the midweek. There will likely be a couple of mornings (Thursday & Friday) with lows in the 40s in many towns. Afternoon highs in the 60s are likely Wednesday and Thursday. Let’s break it down day-by-day.
Monday – A decent dose of sunshine with highs in the mid 70s. It will dip into the 50s at night under mainly clear skies.
Tuesday – Another pretty nice day. Clouds and sun with highs in the low 70s. The low will be in the 50s again at night. There may be some light showers around early Wednesday morning.
Wednesday – Slight chance of light rain showers primarily in the morning. Expecting 0.1″ or less rain. More clouds than Monday and Tuesday. Highs in the 60s with a northeast breeze. Lows in the 40s to low 50s Wednesday night.
Thursday – A chilly start to the day followed by sun and clouds. Highs in the mid to upper 60s. Back into the 40s at night under clear skies.
Friday – Partly to mostly sunny. A bit warmer with highs in the low 70s. Not as cool at night – lows in the 50s.
Weekend – The last weekend of summer will feel like summer with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s under mostly sunny skies. The forecast is somewhat contingent on what happens with Humberto, but it looks like the storm will be staying far enough out to sea that it only sends some rough surf our way.
Relatively warm start to fall
Autumn arrives at 3:50 a.m. EDT on Monday. The first few days of the season are likely to be relatively warm with temperatures well into the 70s, and possibly even warmer. The normal high temperature for the first few days of fall is close to 70, so 80 is quite warm.
It also looks relatively dry for the end of the month. We know that there is not much rain at all on the way for this week, and the pattern does not look particularly wet next week, either. Odds favor 0.5″ or less rain in the last two weeks of the month. That’s about 30% of normal for that stretch.
Humberto is a hurricane on Monday morning and will likely intensify in the next few days. It will be wave-maker for the East Coast, but probably nothing more than that. Bermuda could have some wind/rain impacts on Thursday.
