The weekend is off to a cold start, but what else is new this November? The month is running 4-6 degrees colder than normal in Southern New England. Expect dry skies on Saturday through the evening. Cold rain develops overnight, and Sunday looks soggy and raw. The rain will likely be steadiest in the morning, but it lingers in the afternoon, too. Temps will range from the upper 30s in western CT to the upper 40s to low 50s in Southeastern Massachusetts. Most towns will be in the upper 30s to low 40s.
Rain totals will be 0.75-1.5″ in most towns from the Sunday storm system. There is not much cold air near this storm, so the temperature will stay above freezing for at least several hours after the precipitation ends Sunday evening. The best chance of falling below freezing Sunday night is in northwest CT. The rest of CT, RI and SE MA may stay in the mid 30s overnight.
The weather looks relatively quiet early next week. If you’re traveling Monday or Tuesday, there are no weather concerns. Highs will be near 50 on Monday and in the mid 50s on Tuesday. A storm system brings rain showers and gusty wind on Wednesday. It may be enough to cause some flight delays in the Eastern United States. I do not expect it to have a MAJOR impact at most airports. The wind will crank Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Thanksgiving day looks chilly and dry, with gusty winds. The temperature will be in the 30s to low 40s, but feeling more like the 20s. Cold weather continues through next weekend. Odds favor dry weather through Saturday with a chance of rain/snow by the end of the weekend or early the following week. That’s a long way down the road.
It has been a top-10 coldest November for most of Southern New England so far, and that will likely not change too much by the end of the month as the pattern looks mostly near or colder than normal in Southern New England.
