November 6 – Mainly or all rain Thursday night; Cold next week

Clouds will increase on Thursday ahead of a storm system that will bring more rain than snow to Southern New England. Rain develops late in the day in Connecticut and shortly after sunset in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. Colder air will charge in late in the evening, and it may change rain to snow before ending. The best chance of a minor accumulation (mainly on grass) is in NW CT.

Rain may end as a brief period of snow Thursday night

The temperature will fall from the 50s Thursday afternoon to the 30s when the precipitation ends between 11 pm in western CT and 3 am in Southeastern MA. It may get below freezing by dawn inland, so be on the lookout for a few slick spots. Cities/towns close to the water will likely stay slightly above freezing through dawn on Friday.

A cold start on Friday, but it may stay above freezing near the coast

Expect brisk weather and quite a chill on Friday. The temperature will struggle to reach 40° with partly cloudy skies. The low temperature Saturday morning will be well below freezing – in the 20s. Expect a chilly Saturday afternoon with highs in the low 40s. Saturday night will be cool, and Sunday looks like a decent day as temperatures rebound into the 50s.

Active and Cold in the Eastern US

The weather pattern looks fairly active and rather cold in the Eastern United States through mid-November. A storm system developing along an Arctic cold front may bring more precipitation in the Monday night through Tuesday time frame. Right now, it looks like more rain than snow in Southern New England. A slight shift in the track or timing of the storm could lead to a more wintry scenario.

Cold weather pours in from Canada in the middle of next week, and it’s possible the temperature will not get out of the 30s on Wednesday and/or Thursday. Of course, I’ve been alluding to a cold mid-November for a week now, so it shouldn’t come as a great surprise.
