April was a relatively cool month in Southern New England, and by the end of next week, May could be well on its way to also being cooler than normal. The start of the month, including Monday was relatively warm, but that will be the exception more than the rule through mid-May.
Look for cooler, but not really chilly, weather on Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will be near 60 with dry skies through late Wednesday afternoon. A storm system passing out to sea Wednesday night may throw a few showers at the coast, with the best chance of rain on Cape Cod and the islands. A secondary disturbance may lead to pop-up showers during the day. Highs will be in the upper 50s to low 60s again on Thursday. The normal high is in the mid 60s at this time of the year.
Another storm system spreads rain into Connecticut and then Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts during the day on Friday. It may take until late in the day to reach RI and SE MA. The bulk of the rain will fall overnight as the storm system moves to the north.
Mother’s Day weekend looks okay, but relatively cool – especially on Saturday. Expect a lot of clouds on Saturday and a few pop-up showers cannot be ruled out. Mother’s Day will likely be brighter, but not really warm with highs in the upper 50s.
There are no big soakers coming into New England through the middle of the month. The temperature and precipitation will both average below normal for the next 10-15 days.
