Live Broadcast: Red Bull Stratos, Mission to the edge of space

Watch as daredevil Felix Baumgartner attempts to free-fall from the stratosphere Sunday afternoon. Weather conditions are favorable, and as of 1pm EDT, Baumgartner was already 83,000 feet above the earth and rising in a capsule attached to a huge helium balloon. A specially designed suit is expected to allow Baumgartner survive the extreme cold, lack of oxygen, and extremely low air pressure in the outer reaches of Earth’s atmosphere.

One of the records Baumgartner hopes to break is becoming the first skydiver to break the sound barrier. If all goes as planned, he will break the sound barrier for about 20 seconds on his descent back to the Earth’s surface.
