A supercharged weather system may bring 60 mph wind gusts to parts of Southern New England late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. The howling south-southwesterly winds will be accompanied by some rain ahead of a vigorous cold front that was responsible for hundreds of wind damage reports and four reported tornadoes in the Midwest and South on Tuesday. Severe thunderstorms are not likely in Southern New England. The main concern is for strong winds not far from the surface mixing to the ground in heavier showers early Thursday morning. The wind will be 80-100 mph 1000-2000 feet off the surface. While those winds are unlikely to mix to the surface, some damaging 60 mph wind gusts are possible. The High Wind Warning includes all of RI and SE MA.
DAMAGING WINDS EXPECTED LATE TONIGHT INTO EARLY THURSDAY ALONG
AND AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING COLD FRONT…
