Wet and windy Thursday AM commute likely

An approaching cold front is slated to move through Southern New England during the Thursday morning commute bringing howling winds and some locally heavy rain showers. A surge of very mild air will move through the Northeast ahead of the front. The temperature will jump into the 50s in most of Southern New England by late Wednesday, and it will stay extremely mild into Thursday morning. The temperature may reach 60° in a few spots. Increasing south-southwesterly winds should reach 20-40 mph near the coast by Wednesday evening, with the strongest winds expected early Thursday morning with the squall line of showers - and maybe even a few thunderstorms. There is the potential for wind gusts to 60 mph and a High Wind Warning is in effect for part of Southern New England. A few showers will may develop in Southern New England Wednesday afternoon and evening in advance of the main area of rain which is likely to coincide with the morning commute between 5am and 8am Thursday. There will be some downpours, but widespread street flooding is not expected. The rain combined with the wind may be enough to slow the morning commute considerably. Colder weather will move in once the rain ends. The temperature will fall from the 50s early in the day to the low to mid 30s by sunset. The weather pattern looks mainly dry into the weekend. A few snow showers or flurries are possible, primarily near the coast, on Friday. An Alberta Clipper may bring light snow on Sunday.
