Sunny, cool start to the week

A fresh coat of snow made for a very pretty Monday morning in most of Southern New England. Snow totals were less than two inches in most of RI and SE MA, with higher totals in N MA, including 8″ at the Worcester Airport. Monday afternoon looks partly sunny and seasonably cool, with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. It will be mainly clear Monday night. The temperature will drop into the mid to upper 20s in most spots by early Tuesday morning.

Tuesday will be a dry day, with sunshine followed by clouds, and highs in the low to mid 40s. Clouds will continue to thicken Tuesday evening. Snow, rain and mixed precipitation will break out late Tuesday night in Southern New England. Cold air may hang on long enough for some snow to accumulate in areas away from the immediate coast, particularly the higher terrain of NW RI into Worcester County. Right now, it does not look like a big snow accumulation, but it may be enough to play a role in slowing the Wednesday morning commute. The precipitation will start as, or quickly change to, rain near the coast. Wednesday looks raw and rainy, with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s.

There is a fair amount of uncertainty with the late-week and weekend forecast. Thursday may start out mild, but it will likely turn cooler with some rain/snow showers developing during the afternoon and lasting into Friday morning. A storm will develop off the Northeast coast, and, at this point, it looks like it will move far enough away that the weekend will be mainly or all dry in Southern New England. It’s unlikely that there will be much of a warm-up, with highs within a few degrees of 40 both Saturday and Sunday.
