More bright sunshine on Sunday

There was wall to wall blue sky in Southern New England on Saturday. The high temperature was a bit cooler than normal, with most of RI in the upper 50s to low 60s. It was cooler in far Eastern MA due to an easterly breeze. Farther inland, in Central CT and Western MA, the temperature reached the low 70s. Saturday night will be clear and chilly. Lows will be in the mid 30s to low 40s. Some patchy frost is possible in the countryside.

After a chilly start, Sunday looks beautiful, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 60s – except at the coast where it will be in the upper 50s because of an onshore breeze. The wind will shift from the east to the southeast during the afternoon. It will be between 10-15 mph near the coast. It looks like a great morning for the Navigant Credit Union Running Festival in Pawtucket, RI.

Sunday night looks mainly clear to partly cloudy. If the sky stays clear, it will be nearly as cool as Saturday night. The low in Providence should be close to 40° – about 5° cooler than normal. Monday will be another nice day, with sun and clouds, and highs in the mid to upper 60s inland. A southerly breeze will keep the coast 5-10° cooler. Tuesday should also be decent, with highs getting close  to 70° inland.

Showers likely in the middle of next week

A slow-moving storm that is bringing storm to the Tennessee Valley this weekend will finally reach the Mid-Atlantic and Southern New England by the middle of next week. A mainly dry and clear stretch of weather that began on April 24 will likely come to an end on Wednesday. Showers are likely with an easterly wind as the storm slowly spins to the northeast through the Mid-Atlantic. The temperature will be in the 50s to low 60s. Damp weather is likely early Thursday, with the chance of some showers in the afternoon. A few passing showers can’t be ruled out on Friday, either.

Looking ahead to next weekend, the weather in Southern New England will hinge on the speed and intensity of a weather system moving through the Midwest into the Great Lakes. Right now, it looks like there could be showers on Saturday and/or Sunday. It’s a low-confidence forecast, so be sure to check rightweather.com for forecast updates in the next few days.
