National Weather Services issues Flood Watch for Tuesday PM

Showers and thunderstorms will roll through Southeastern New England Tuesday afternoon and early evening. The potential for heavy downpours over an area that has already received more than 6″ of rain in the past 10 days increases the likelihood of street, stream, and river flooding. The heavy rain may not be as widespread as Monday night’s 1-2.5″ soaking, but some thunderstorms could produce more than an inch of rain in an hour or two. Flooding is already occurring on some area rivers including the Pawcatuck River in Westerly, RI and the Pawtuxet River in Cranston, RI. June 2013 is already one of the top-5 wettest months of June on record in the Providence area.
