Chantal weakens, models diverge on track

The latest computer models are diverging on the track of Tropical Storm Chantal. Possible solutions range from the western Gulf of Mexico to east of Florida. The ultimate track of Chantal may be somewhat of a moot point, as the National Hurricane Center is sending a reconnaissance plane into the storm to see if it has degenerated into a tropical wave. Max sustained winds at 8AM EDT were down to 45 mph. The storm is expected to weaken to a tropical depression.
