Flash Flood Warnings in Eastern Connecticut

Slow-moving, drenching showers and thunderstorms continue to plague Eastern Connecticut. Doppler estimated rainfall totals were approaching 3″ near Norwich, CT as of 2pm, and there was more heavy rain likely through the late-afternoon. The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for most of Eastern CT through mid to late afternoon.

* AT 153 PM EDT...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS AND HEAVY RAINSHOWERS
  PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. UP TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN HAVE
  ALREADY FALLEN. FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN SHORTLY.

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE...
  WINDHAM...PLAINFIELD...KILLINGLY...PUTNAM...THOMPSON...BROOKLYN...
  WOODSTOCK...CANTERBURY...POMFRET...CHAPLIN...HAMPTON...EASTFORD AND
  SCOTLAND.

FROM MONTVILLE TO FRANKLIN. OVER 2 INCHES OF RAIN HAS BEEN REPORTED
IN THIS AREA...WITH AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 2 INCHES POSSIBLE THROUGH 4

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...URBAN AREAS...HIGHWAYS...STREETS AND UNDERPASSES
AS WELL AS OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.
