Flash Flood Watch extended in N CT and Worcester Cty

The Flash Flood Watch has been extended to include all of northern CT and Worcester County until 6 pm on Friday, August 9, 2013. Locally heavy rain may lead to flash flooding as a slow-moving cold front passes Southern New England.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS EXPANDED THE

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH TO INCLUDE PORTIONS OF NORTHERN CONNECTICUT
  AND CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS...IN
  NORTHERN CONNECTICUT...HARTFORD...TOLLAND AND WINDHAM
  COUNTIES...IN CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS...SOUTHERN WORCESTER COUNTY.

* UNTIL 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING.

* A COLD FRONT WILL SLOWLY MOVE ACROSS THE WATCH AREA THIS
  AFTERNOON AND EVENING...WITH VERY WARM AND HUMID AIR IN PLACE
  AHEAD OF IT. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP AND PUSH
  ACROSS THE REGION TODAY INTO EARLY TONIGHT. SOME OF THE SHOWERS
  AND STORMS MAY PRODUCE VERY HEAVY RAIN. RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL
  AVERAGE BETWEEN 1 AND 3 INCHES. SOME LOCALIZED AMOUNTS MAY REACH
  UP TO 4 INCHES...WHICH WILL LIKELY CAUSE FLASH FLOODING.

* AREAS PRONE TO QUICKLY RISING WATER SUCH AS URBAN AND POOR
  DRAINAGE AREAS AS WELL AS FAST RISING SMALL STREAMS MAY BE
  VULNERABLE TO FLASH FLOODING THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING
  ESPECIALLY IF BANDS OF HEAVY RAINFALL SET UP IN THOSE AREAS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION
SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
