A cold front will move through Southern New England Sunday morning, and showers are likely ahead of it. There is the outside chance of an embedded thunderstorm.
The best chance of rain is early to mid morning on Sunday. The youth races are 8 am to 10:30 am, and the chance of showers diminishes as the morning progresses. The 5k, which is the also the USATF USA 5km Championships begins at 11:15 am. With a bit of luck, the showers will be over by then. It will be mild and somewhat humid, with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. The dew point will be in the low to mid 60s. There will be a 10-15 mph southwest breeze.
The 3k race begins at 12:15 pm. By that point, the showers should be long since over, and it will be partly cloudy and near 70°. The dew point will be falling into the 50s.
If you’re looking for a silver lining in the current forecast, it is that the computer model trend is for the showers to move through a bit earlier than previously predicted. If that trend continues, it is possible the showers will be over by 8-9 am, leaving mostly dry weather for all the races.
