Southern New England rain totals September 2, 2013

A second straight day of locally heavy rain led to flash flooding in parts of Southern New England on Labor Day, Monday, September 2, 2013. The hardest hit areas were in CT and RI, with Kent and Providence Counties experiencing street and river flooding after roughly 3″ of rain fell on an area that had received 2-5″ rain just a day earlier. The Pawtuxet River rose very quickly cresting at 9.79 feet (flood stage 9 feet) at 8 pm Monday evening. By Tuesday morning the river had receded to below flood stage.
