Strong Tropical Storm Gabrielle hitting Bermuda

Tropical Storm Gabrielle continues to strengthen as it hits Bermuda Tuesday evening. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph at 8 pm EDT Tuesday, September 10. The National Hurricane Center forecast keeps Gabrielle as a tropical storm for the next few days, but it’s possible the storm will briefly become a minimal hurricane after passing Bermuda and moving north over the Western Atlantic Ocean.

Gabrielle will interact with a cold front passing off the Northeastern United States coast on Friday. The storm will move into the Canadian Maritimes Friday into this weekend, bringing a period of strong winds and heavy rain to parts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
