Tropical Depression Nine expected to become a hurricane

The ninth tropical depression of the Atlantic hurricane season has formed in the Eastern Atlantic. It will bring squally weather to the Cape Verde islands as it moves west-northwest early in the week. It is forecast to move northwest through midweek then west-northwest again by late in the week. Gradually strengthening is likely in the next couple of days and it could be come the long-awaited first hurricane of the season. After passing the Cape Verde islands it will be no threat to land in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean.

WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 13.1 NORTH...LONGITUDE 21.4 WEST.  THE
DEPRESSION IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 12 MPH...19 KM/H...AND
THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH LATE MONDAY.  A
TURN TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST WITH A DECREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS
FORECAST BY TUESDAY.  ON THE FORECAST TRACK...THE CENTER OF THE
